Make the most of your next appointment

Doctor and patient reviewing a medical form

A little preparation can make your appointment more useful. Bring your questions and key information so you can focus on the conversation and understand what comes next.

Start with your main concern

Write down the questions you most want to discuss and put the most important one first. If you have symptoms, note when they began and what makes them better or worse.

Bring the details

A current medication list and relevant health information can help the conversation. Include nonprescription medicines, vitamins, and supplements. Ask reception whether there are forms to complete ahead of a first visit.

Leave with a plan

Before you leave, make sure you understand the next steps. Ask for a plain-language explanation of anything that is unclear, and take notes to help you remember the plan.
